mission statement

The Resonance Center is a charitable (section 501(c)(3)) organization dedicated to enhancing the cultural life of, and quality of life in, Utica and its environs. The Resonance Center seeks to do so by creating community-based opportunities and experiences in the arts, education, holistic health and sustainable living.

  • By curating art exhibits and providing samples of our artists' work online, we offer artists of all levels and media the chance to share their work with the community and reach other venues, patrons and opportunities at home and abroad.
  • By bringing regional, national and international artists into the area to work, exhibit, perform and/or lead workshops, we facilitate the development and exchange of new ideas and diverse perspectives.
  • By hosting poetry readings, dramatic and musical performances, we promote and celebrate literacy in our community and provide a forum for innovative theater and young or developing artists.
  • By hosting a consignment shop, we provide local artists with an opportunity to display and sell their artwork, craft or other creative product. Some consignment shop items are also displayed on our website, allowing our members international exposure.
  • By offering a gathering place for musicians and other artists, and a studio space for artists to manifest and discuss their ideas (along with a support group of peers to work with and learn from) we provide a guild-like atmosphere where everyone shares in, and benefits from, the exchange of knowledge and experience.
  • By developing and distributing an arts newsletter, we inform the public of our organization's purpose and ongoing events and give voice and space to our area writers, visual artists and healing practitioners.
  • By offering a place for meditation in our healing space, and related to educational programming including links to area practitioners, we offer the public a place to learn about and experience firsthand practices that can enhance their health, quality of life and well-being.
  • By offering a library focused on the areas of poetry, literature, drama, visual arts, philosophy, the healing arts and self-sustainable living, we provide an additional source or reference and learning for the community.
  • By working and coordinating regularly with other arts-based, educational or non-profit organizations in our area, we seek to maximize the type and number of arts and educational programming and opportunities available to the inhabitants of the Utica region.

We welcome and encourage participation in Resonance Center programming by all members of our community. By providing a nurturing environment and forum for the creation, sharing and promotion of art, and providing education and experience in healing practices and sustainable living, we hope to improve the quality of life for, and empower, our youth and broader community. We feel that learning should be driven by the interest of the individual and framed in the responsibility that this individual has to him or herself, the community, and our shared future.
